Day 3: BASEBALL!!!

Day three in Amsterdam finally brought us baseball! The day started with breakfast at the hotel. We then took the bus to the field for the first game. Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate. We had really have rains from about 7-930am and it left the fields in rough shape. We ended up having a delay until 10:30am. The grounds crew at the Amsterdam Pirates facility was outstanding in their efforts to get the field ready to play.

The day started with Team A taking on the Hoofddorp Pioneers. We got out to an early lead but the Pioneers came storming back in the top of the last inning to tie the game at 10. The pioneers had the momentum shift in their favor but it was quickly shut down by Will Hindle's walk off single in the bottom half of the inning giving Seacoast A the 11-10 victory. Owen Fox got the win on the mound and Cam Beane was a force at the plate all day, going 4-9 with two doubles and 2 RBI's.

Team AA followed with a game against the reigning European Pony League Championship team, Netherlands Pony League. We were down 2-0 heading into the 5th inning but the bats came alive for the Netherlands and they ended up winning the game by a score of  9-0. This would leave AA facing elimination for the remainder of the tournament.

In a quick turnaround AA faced off against the Hoofddorp Pioneers in an elimination game. Seacoast got out to an early 6-0 lead with the help of an inside the park grand slam from Will Macgregor and a triple from Colin Grenier. We added 4 runs in the top of the 5th inning to extend our lead to 10-3, which would end up being the final score. AA also got RBI's from Devon Lapierre, Kolten Williams, Colin Grenier, and Jack Lacouture. Mike Rollick started on the mound and picked up the win after allowing only 2 hits and striking out 3.

At the same time Team A faced off against the Netherlands Pony League Champions. Seacoast battled hard all game but lost by a score of 17-2. Team A would also be facing elimination for the remainder of the tournament.

Team A then had an elimination game against the host Amsterdam Pirates. The game has been postponed until tomorrow morning at 8:30am. The game is headed into the final inning with Seacoast A trailing 3-2. It was a great battle that featured great pitching and defense from both teams. Team A will need to come back in the last inning to face the winner of Ramstein v. Seacoast AA in the quarterfinals.

Team AA will also resume an elimination game at 8:30 against the Ramstein Ambassadors, a team located on a US Army base just outside of Germany. Seacoast jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first inning with help again from Will Macgregor and Colin Grenier. Macgregor kicked off the scoring with a 2 run double to center field and Colin later hit Macgregor in with a sacrifice fly to right field. After Ramstein battled back to make the score 4-3, Seacoast AA added 4 more runs in the bottom of the 4th. Kosta Mocklis had a bases loaded double that emptied the bases on a ball the was JUST fair down the left field line. Ramstein was not phased and got a rally going in the top of the 5th. They loaded the bases and scored a run on a single to center. Colin Grenier came up big again and threw out the second runner trying to score to keep the score at 8-5. The skies then opened up and the game was postponed. The game will resume with runners on first and second with one out and the score 8-5. AA will need 2 more outs to advance to the quarterfinals and will face the winner of Seacoast A and Amsterdam Pirates

Check back tomorrow to find out how we do!
